The
original Scheunenviertel (Barn District) was populated mainly by
Eastern European Jews and Berlin’s workers, and comprised the area
around Rosa Luxemburg Platz. It was named after the barns that were
erected there in the 17th century on order of the fire
department and in which hay, a highly flammable animal feed, was
stored before the gates of the city.
Today’s Scheunenviertel comprises the preserved area around
Steinstrasse, Mulackstrasse, Gormannstrasse, etc. - and it certainly
has its appeal. Here, in the narrow streets and alleys, you will find
numerous pubs and restaurants which cater to every budget and taste.
In summer you can enjoy the café life and the fresh Berlin air at one
of the many outdoor cafés.
You will find our
establishment in the midst of this thriving bohemian district.
